Biography
Prof David Katerere holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland and a BPharm (Hons) from the University of Zimbabwe. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pretoria Phytomedicine Programme. He then worked as a Chief Bioanalyst at Farmovs-Parexel CRO Pty Ltd and as a Specialist Scientist with the Programme for Mycotoxins and Experimental Carcinogenesis (PROMEC) Unit at the MRC in Cape Town. He was also a visiting scientist at Scynexis Inc, RTP, North Carolina a biotech start-up in 2010 he trained on drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) of NCEs and was also a protege of Dr Yves Ribbeil and Dr Dennis Liotta, two leading pharmaceutical scientists and biotech entrepreneurs in the US.
David is on the expert committees of SA Medicines Control Council (now SAHPRA) (both P&A and CMC). His research interests include product formulation and development, nutraceuticals and pharmaceutical quality management. He has published over 50 journal articles and is co-editor of three books: Ethnoveterinary Botanical Medicines (T&F) (2010), Systems Analysis Approach for Complex Global Challenges (Springer) (2018) and Traditional and Indigenous Knowledge for the Modern Era (T&F) (2019).
