Preparing for the New Normal

COVID-19 has caused major disruptions to health supply chains around the world. How has the global community responded and what’s next? “Preparing for the New Normal” was a timely virtual discussion as a COVID-19 vaccine inches closer to reality, presenting new challenges – but also opportunities – for global health supply chains around the world.

The discussion brought together the crucial considerations governments, aid agencies, and implementing partners must take in the following areas:

  • Adjusting countries’ procurement processes to respond to the stresses brought on by COVID-19 to global supply chains
  • Identifying opportunities for investment in infrastructure and local production to enhance vaccine distribution
  • Scaling decentralized distribution models based on countries’ supply chain system maturity
  • Leveraging data visibility and innovative digital platforms

Panelists explored these topics and shared recommendations for adapting global health supply chains to the “new normal” by using lessons learned as well as insights from the public and private sectors.
