Global Health Research Challenge

DESCRIPTION

The Global Health Supply Chain Summit Group, in partnership with Chemonics International, is proud to launch its inaugural Global Health Supply Chain Research Challenge.

OBJECTIVES

Through this challenge, we plan to provide small seed research grants of up to $10,000 to the authors of the top research submission(s). We are seeking research proposals that:

  • Evaluate and analyze the root cause of challenges in global health supply chains and pharmaceutical management in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)
  • Study the effectiveness and efficiency of existing health supply chains and pharmaceutical management programs in LMICs
  • Provide recommendations to build resilient and self-reliant health supply chains in LMICs
  • Study approaches for pooling resources for procurement and/or manufacturing of health commodities, and coordination and cooperation models to facilitate such pooling
  • Study different supply chain structures to deliver vaccines from a manufacturer to the arms of people, such as location and nature of vaccination centers and incentives to get vaccinations

ELIGIBILITY

Individuals or organizations with education or experience in health supply chains and pharmaceutical management may submit research proposals on topics that fit within the themes described above. The principal investigator team must include at least one person from a LMIC.

FUNDING

The winning team(s) will be awarded up to $10,000.

Open to Submissions:  June 15, 2021

Submission Deadline: September 6, 2021

Evaluation and Decisions: November, 2021

HOW DO I SUBMIT A RESEARCH PROPOSAL?

  • Click on “Proposal Submission” and fill in the form. You will attach your proposal in pdf format to the submission. 
  • Submit your research proposal before 11:59 pm GMT by September 6, 2021.

WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL CONTAIN?

  1. Cover page giving title and list of investigators / researchers with affiliations
  2. Background / Description of the problem
  3. Research Goals & Objectives
  4. Research Methods
  5. Roles & Responsibilities of the different people in the research team
  6. Significance of the research / potential next steps
  7. Deliverable expected as the outcome of the proposed project
  8. Anticipated potential challenges and potential solutions to those challenges
  9. 1-page itemized budget and budget justification
  10. Bios of the author(s)

The main content of the proposal (items 2-8), excluding the cover page, budget and bios, should not exceed 2000 words.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY RESEARCH PROPOSAL HAS BEEN SUBMITTED?

  • A committee from GHSCS Group and Chemonics representatives will review the research proposals based on the following evaluation criteria:
    • Content level (quality, appropriateness, rigor, coherence/justification)
    • Level of description (clarity, completeness)
    • Significance of expected results
    • Qualifications of the author(s)
  • The top submission(s) will be selected and awarded a grant.
  • The awardees will be announced on November 11, 2021
  • The GHSCS Group and Chemonics committee will evaluate the research progress, every three months, and provide ad-hoc support to grantees throughout the research study
  • Final research reports will be due October 15, 2022; format of report submission will be notified later.
  • The team will have an opportunity to present their research findings at the GHSC2022 Summit in November 2022
